Former Detroit News assistant business editor Kehrt Reyher, who lives in Poland with his wife Marzenna about 180 miles from Ukraine, is helping refugees who fled that war-torn country.

The two run the The Nakło Foundation, which supports progressive programs and businesses, and is serving as a safe haven for Ukrainians. They're currently hosting seven people from three families at the foundation's bed-and-breakfast, a 1780 former palace in the village of Lelów that they bought in 2002.

Reyher, who left The News in 1991 and has been in Poland for 30 years, spoke to Deadline TV Tuesday morning (video below) from his home in the south-central part of the country.

The Indiana native says donations to his foundation -- nearly $15,000 so far -- support the refugees and local food banks.  To contribute, click here.
