Deli man Stuart Litt
Talk a few minutes to Stuart Litt and it's clear he's ready to retire after 50 years behind the counter slicing corned beef, pastrami and dil pickles at Hygrade Deli on Michigan Avenue in Detroit.
Litt, 66, first worked for his father, then took over the deli decades ago. In February, he publicly announced he had sold it. Since then, he's stuck around to ensure a smooth transition. His last day is supposed to be March 31, but that's a Thursday, so he says he'll probably stick around until Saturday to officially wrap up the week.
On Tuesday, after most of the lunch crowd was gone, he sat with Deadline Detroit to talk about his feelings about leaving, what he'll miss, the TV and movies that shot scenes there, notables who dined over the years including Tigers' legend Willie Horton and Mayor Mike Duggan, and his favorite suburban delis.
