Melissa Ann Dietz, the wife of WJR radio host Kevin Dietz, died Tuesday of heart failure. Dietz, who also went by "Missy," was 57.
"Known for her infectious laughter and vivacious personality, Missy had an uncanny ability to bring joy and light to any room," according to an obituary on the A.J. Desmond & Sons funeral home website. "She had a zest for life and a love for adventure, always seeking new experiences and exploring the world around her. Her presence alone was enough to make any gathering feel like a celebration."
Born July 11, 1965, to Judy and Jim Maybank, she was one of three children.
She graduated with honors from Cheboygan High School and went on to earn a mathematics degree at Michigan Tech University and a master's in business administration from Lake Superior University.
She was an account director at Morley Companies in Saginaw, where she worked more than 20 years.
"Missy's contributions to the company were invaluable, and her impact will continue to be felt by those fortunate enough to work alongside her," the obituary said.
"Missy was a woman of many passions and talents," the obituary said."She had a keen intellect and a love for learning, embodying a curiosity about the world around her. An accomplished athlete, Missy not only excelled in her own athletic pursuits but also found joy in coaching others. She touched the lives of many aspiring athletes through her coaching, instilling in them the values of teamwork, dedication, and perseverance."
She also tutored neighborhood children to help them do well in academics.
For nearly 32 years she was married to Kevin Dietz, who worked as investigative reporter for WDIV for more than 25 years. He eventually landed a show on WJR.
The couple had three children, Kevin, Isabelle, and Lexi.
"A partnership filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Together, they built a strong foundation of love and support that remains a testament to their enduring bond."
She also found strength in her daily readings of the bible, the obituary said.
A viewing will be held Friday from 2-8 pm, with a Rosary at 7 pm, at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home (Vasu, Rodgers & Connell Chapel), 32515 Woodward Ave. in Royal Oak.
A funeral mass will take place, Saturday at 10:30 am at St. Hugo of the Hills Church, 2215 Opdyke Rd. in Bloomfield Hills.
