Detroit Police were reviewing on Friday an ambiguous statement by a jailed suspect in the fatal stabbing of downtown Detroit synagogue President Samantha Woll, the Detroit News reports, citing four unnamed police sources.

The 48-hour window for authorities to charge the man was closing in on Friday, the News reports. The suspect, whose name has not officially been released, was arrested Tuesday in Kalamazoo after he gave a statement about the killing, but officials felt it wasn't enough to file charges, the News reports.

Deadline Detroit reported Thursday that the suspect knew Woll well and attended the same synagogue, the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue on Griswold.

The suspect attended her funeral on Oct. 22, according to one person who interacted with him there. He was also present at the August celebration for the reopening of the building following a $6 million renovation, and posed for photos with Woll.
