A 28-year-old Detroit gas station clerk will not be charged in Tuesday's fatal shooting of Yaqoub Nagi,17, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office announced Wednesday.

"It has been determined that the clerk acted in lawful self-defense when he fatally shot Mr. Nagi," a press release said.

According to the release, Detroit police officers were dispatched at 1:07 a.m. to the Citgo station in the 9100 block of Dearborn Street where they found Nagi lying inside the gas station behind the door of the front counter suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation, the release stated, revealed that Nagi entered the gas station and walked behind the clerk’s counter. When the clerk confronted him, he observed Nagi holding an object with his hands together pointing as if he had a handgun.

The clerk fired multiple shots, fatally wounding the victim, said authorities.

“Last summer, there were a series of shootings at Detroit gas stations - some of them resulted in a loss of life," said Wayne Prosecutor Kym Worthy in a statement. "This case is yet another deadly shooting in a gas station, but the facts are very different. The evidence in this case shows that the actions of the store clerk were in lawful self-defense and as a result this office will not be charging him with any crime."
