The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said Tuesday it's reviewing a police request for charges in the fatal stabbing of downtown Detroit synagogue president Samantha Woll.

On Sunday night Detroit Police confirmed that they had arrested a person of interest. The Detroit News reported that the suspect was a stranger to Woll. The first person who was arrested, and later released without charges, was Woll's former boyfriend.

The prosecutor's office will determine if investigators have collected enough evidence to warrant a murder charge. If not, the suspect will soon be released.

Police, according to the News, repeated Sunday as to what they've been saying all along, that the murder was not a hate crime related to antisemitism. Immediately after the stabbing, people began speculating that it may have been the result of the Israel-Hamas war. It became international news.

In mid-November, Crime Stoppers of Michigan offered a $15,000 reward for information in the fatal stabbing on Oct. 21 of Woll, who was president of the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue in Detroit.

The reward came nearly a week after police released her ex-boyfriend, who attended the synagogue and was seen there nearly a week after the murder for a Friday night service.
