Chick-fil-A Opening in Downtown Detroit

February 22, 2024, 3:46 PM

The wildly popular Chick-fil-A chain plans to open an outlet in the First National Building on Woodward Avenue in the heart of downtown Detroit, Crain's Detroit Business reports.

The outlet joins other restaurants in the building, Shake Shack and Central Kitchen + Bar. The building is owned by Dan Gilbert's real estate division.

In 2017, Chick-fil-A opened a shop in the Detroit Medical Center in Midtown Detroit. It has other locations in Metro Detroit including Allen Park, Livonia, Metro Airport and the Somerset Collection in Troy.

Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. is opening a downtown Detroit location, just south of Chick-fil-A.

The Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A closes on Sunday because of faith reasons. The company also generated controversy in the past for supporting anti-LGBQT+ groups and causes. That has changed.

The company angered conservatives by creating a diversity, equity, and inclusion program with a high-ranking executive in charge. Some have now accused the company of being too woke.
