Sutton surrenders Sunday night

Fugitive Detroit Lions cornerback Cameron Sutton, who was on the run after being charged with domestic battery by strangulation, surrendered Sunday night to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in Tampa, Fla.

On March 21, after Sutton, 29, was charged, the Lions released him from the team. A sheriff's press release said that on March 25, Sutton’s attorney contacted the sheriff's warrant section and said Sutton planned to turn himself in.

Instead, Sutton was nowhere to be found until Sunday night at 8:24 p.m. when he turned himself in at the Orient Road Jail on Orient Road in Tampa.

“After weeks of evading law enforcement, this man has finally made the right choice to turn himself in,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister in a statement “Domestic violence has no place in our community, and no one is above the law here in Hillsborough County. My thoughts are with this woman as she continues to heal from this man’s gruesome actions.” a.
