Michigan Assistant Attorney General Shares Meme That Says F--- Anyone Who Shares 'Zionist Propoganda'

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel's office said Tuesday it's looking into it. The Anti-Defamation League of Michigan says the social media post is "hateful" and  "perpetuates hatred toward Jews."

The Detroit News reports that the stir is over a meme shared on Instagram by Michigan Assistant Attorney General Zena Ozeir that said, "f--- America, f--- anyone who shares ... Zionist propaganda." The meme was posted March 24 and got 110 likes.

The News reports that the Instagram page was made private after it contacted the Attorney General's office for comment Tuesday.

The News reports:

"The reports coming out of Al-Shifa are absolutely horrifying," the meme said, a reference to Israel's March 18 raid on the Al-Shifa hospital that was conducted, according to Israeli and U.S. officials, because Hamas was operating command centers beneath the facility in Gaza. The World Health Organization said 21 patients were killed during the two-week raid, while Israeli officials said they had found weapons hidden in patients' pillows and beds as well as in the hospital’s ceilings and walls.

Attorney General Dana Nessel's office issued a statement to the News, calling the posting "inappropriate and disturbing," and saying the matter is under review. Nessel is Jewish.

Ozeir has worked for the Attorney General since June 2023, according to her Linkedin page. A gradudate of University of California, Hastings College of the Law, she previously worked as an attorney for ACCESS - Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services in Metro Detroit.

The incident was just one of many playing out in Michigan as the war in Gaza rages on. Last week, Wayne State police removed a Pro-Palestinian encampment on campus and arrested some protesters. And on Monday, the Southfield law firm of Goodman Acker was vandalized with spray paint with Pro-Palestinian slogans. One comment was directed at a Jewish lawyer at the firm, Jordan Acker, who sits on the University of Michigan Board of Regents.
