Saying the high court faces a "corruption crisis, Michigan Democratic Congresswoman Rep. Rashida Tlaib on Thursday called for the impeachment of conservative U.S. Supreme Court Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas, the Detroit News reports.

"We need urgent action to hold these unhinged, corrupt extremists accountable," Tlaib said Thursday in a speech on the House floor. "It is extremely disturbing that the United States Supreme Court, the highest court of our land, is the only court that does not have an enforceable code of conduct."

Both justices have come under criticism for accepting undisclosed gifts from influential conservative donors. Critics have also pointed to their wives who have made news for their far right political views.

Tlaib's remarks came one day after Senate Democrats tried unsuccessfully to pass legislation requiring the justices to adopt a binding code of conduct for acitivities including the disclosure of gifts.
