The electronic billboard at I-75 and Warren in Midtown Detroit shows the ex-president in his trademark red MAGA hat with a siimple message: "Trump Rally This Weekend."

Normally, a billboard like that would appear in the northern suburbs of Oakland County or in Macomb County. But this time it's clear Donald Trump is coming to court Black voters in Detroit where President Joe Biden won 94 percent of the vote in 2020. Support of Black voters is considered crucial for Biden to win Michigan and other key states.

Trump is scheduled to appear Saturday afternoon for a roundtable discussion at the 180 Church, 13660 Standsbury Ave., on the city's westside. The event begins around 4 p.m.

He's also listed as a speaker at The People's Convention at Huntington Place in downtown Detroit, which runs from Friday to Sunday. A specific time was not listed as of Thursday night.

Other speakers at that event don't appear to be ones who would appeal to a mass of Black voters. They include Roger Stone, Steve Bannon, Dr. Ben Carson, Vivek Ramaswamy, My Pillow Guy Mike Lindell, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, Congress members Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene.
