An Oakland County Sheriff's deputy, a father of three with one on the way, was killed Saturday night in what Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard described as an "ambush," the Oakland Press reports.

The shooting happened shortly before 11 p.m. in Detroit while multiple deputies were searching for a 2022 Chevy Equinox that had been stolen from the Red Oaks Water Park in Madison Heights.

Bouchard said the three suspects abruptly stopped the car, exited the vehicle, and opened fire on the deputy who was identified as Bradley J. Reckling, the publication reports. He was a nine-year veteran of the force.

The suspects were arrested, the Oakland Press reports.

Detroit Police are expected to release more information.

A fund has been set up to help the family.
