A 2-year-old boy on Saturday evening shot himself in the stomach with with the babysitter's handgun in Warren, WXYZ reports. The boy is reportedly in stable condition.
Warren police say the incident happened around 6 p.m. at the babysitter's home in the1000 block of Edgemont Street near Stephens and Hoover Roads.
The station reports that that the 42-year-old babysitter is a licensed CPL holder and had two handguns in the residence. Police believe she left the handguns in an unsecured area.
“A child shot because of laziness … basic adult decisions to secure a firearm would have prevented this,” Warren Police Sgt. Jim Twardesky tells WXYZ.
