At a Detroit Metro Airport hangar, before an enthusiastic crowd of thousands, Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday evening delivered a speech attacking opponent Donald Trump, saying he poses a threat to freedom, democracy and a woman's right to decide on abortion.

She also talked about her plan for America.

"When I'm president, it will be my Day One priority to fight to bring down prices, to take on the big corporations that engage in illegal price-gouging, to take on corporate landlords that unfairly raise rents on working families, to take on Big Pharma and cap the cost of prescription drugs for all Americans," Harris said.

Harris talked about the damage Trump's Supreme Court has inflicted on freedom, and the need to strengthen gun laws, including a ban on assault weapons.

Harris was accompanied by her new running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, both of whom will likely be visiting Michigan multiple times before the November election in hopes of landing the state's crucial 15 electoral votes.

Walz also spoke.

"Of all the things that make me mad about those other guys, and all of the things they do wrong, the one thing that I will not forgive them for is they tried to steal the joy from this country. They try and steal the joy," Walz said. "You know what? Our next president brings the joy. She emanates the joy."

He talked about how Trump fell short as a person and a president, particularly during the height of the Covid crisis.

"Again and again he does things that weakens our country, only to strengthen his own hand. He mocks our laws, he sows chaos and division amongst the public and, that's to say nothing about his record as president."

"He froze during Covid. People lost their lives because of that. He drove the economy into the ground, and make no mistake, violent crime was up during Donald Trump's presidency."

The visit came one day after Harris made the decision to pick Walz, and on the same day that Republican vice president nominee J.D. Vance delivered a speech in Shelby Township in Macomb County attacking Harris, blaming her for the illegal immigration problems the country faces.

Other speakers at the rally included Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Sen. Debbie Stabenow, U.S. Reps. Debbie Dingell and Elissa Slotkin, Michigan Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist II and UAW President Sean Fain.
