Thursday evening, days after her win in the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate, Congress member Elissa Slotkin's home in Holly Township was the target of "swatting" hoax -- a trick in which someone reports a false crime, resulting in a police response.

Melissa Nann Burke of the News reports:

Michigan State Police responded to Slotkin's home after a "false threat" that was emailed to a local elected official, though Slotkin was not home at the time, said Lynsey Mukomel, a spokeswoman for the congresswoman.

MSP checked out the Slotkin property and confirmed no one was in danger, she added."This is the latest in a disturbing trend of swatting incidents targeting members of Congress," Mukomel said.

On Tuesday night, Slotkin easily defeated Democratic opponent, Hill Harper, an actor, businessman and community activist.

In November, she faces Republican Mike Rogers, a former Congressman and ex-FBI agent.

Sen. Debbie Stabenow has decided not to run re-election.
