Art and theater can be controversial, and that can make it all the more interesting.

At North Farmington High School in Farmington Hills, students will put on a highly controversial play this week despite protests from several parents, who say it's highly inappropriate,  the Oakland Press reports.

Starting on Thursday, and running  through Saturday, students will perform the play: “Carrie: The Musical, ” which is about a  teenager committing mass murder at a high school. It is based on Stephen King's 1974 novel.

Monica Drake of the Oakland Press writes:

The production team of Dean and Susan Cobb, Lucy Koviak, Sheri Jaffurs and Matt Nix stand by their decision, saying that the story, based on Stephen King’s novel, teaches an important lesson — to “be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.”
